Maribel I. Macapaz, USRN
As my NCLEX exam was nearly approaching, my confidence started to go down. I feel I haven’t studied enough. I need to know more. I need more time, but I don’t have it. I already booked my test, flight, and accommodation.
I chose NCLEX On Point because I was looking for someone to coach me prior to my actual exam. It is a 2-week tutorial. First week are basically discussions about NCLEX and test taking strategies. Second week are practice tests and rationale, how to analyze the questions and thinking of ways to answer them even if you have no idea about the topic, just find a clue from the question and option choices. Of course, content is very important. But when anxiety kicks in and your brain start to forget, these strategies can come in handy. Ma’am April taught us well on how to do this. Few days before my exam, my mother passed away. I was devastated. I can’t concentrate. I didn’t even finish the tutorial. I rescheduled and gave myself another 2 months to study, but it won’t sink in. Two weeks prior to my exam I forced myself to concentrate. I attended another cycle (thank God it’s unlimited) and focused on the topics that might come up on the exam. Our discussions are recorded so if I’m busy with chores I just played the recordings on the background hoping to absorb more information. I followed Ma’am April’s advice to do a lot of practice tests on Lippincott and how to gauge my performance. I also did La Charity and Inap drills. I struggled during the exam because my anxiety was high, and I was not well. I was thankful for the strategies that I learned from Ma’am April because I applied it big time and it helped me pass the exam.
To all aspiring students, just believe in yourself, give time to review, find a good mentor who will guide you, and pray a lot. God helps those who help themselves so do your part and leave the rest to Him.
“Commit yourself to the Lord, Trust in Him, He will act.” (Psalm 37:5).
From the bottom of my heart Ma’am April, thank you very much. I will always be grateful.
Mama, this is for you.
